FAQs about Johnny's Angels:

Question:

I am a Johnny Depp fan.  Does he actually support what you are doing?  Does he know that you are using his name?  Does he also financially support Johnny's Angels charity?  My thoughts are that he must have some association with you folks.  Please answer these questions for me.

I am a Hospice nurse and would like to know the answers to these questions before I venture any further.

Thank you and Job Well Done.

Hi Sue,

Thanks so much for finding us, and for your questions.  They're good ones, and I want to make sure I answer them fully.

Johnny's Angels started out in March 2007 when I approached Children's Hospice (CHPCC) and asked them if they thought a charity project aimed at Depp fans was too crazy to attempt.  Considering that Johnny Depp wears one of CHPCC's memorial bracelets at most of his public functions, I thought it would be interesting to let Depp fans know more about the story behind that bracelet, and to be more explicit about his support of CHPCC.

I believed there were many other women out there like me---Depp fans and moms---who would gladly do something more significant than buy Captain Jack trinkets if only we knew how to proceed.

The directors of CHPCC were enthusiastic about my idea, and we have moved forward with CHPCC's blessings and collaboration ever since.  One of the first things CHPCC did was to contact Mr Depp's management to make sure that Johnny's Angels would not get into legal tangles by using his name in this manner.

So yes, his management does indeed know about Johnny's Angels and I'm told they are fine with the way we are presenting Mr Depp's association with CHPCC.  Whether Johnny Depp himself knows .... well, that's something I really can't tell you.  He may, who knows?  For me, it's enough that his management is okay with this project.  [UPDATE 04/14/08 - SEE THE LETTER WE RECEIVED FROM JOHNNY DEPP]

As to whether he is financially involved ...  no, not at all. We don't have any funding whatsoever.  This is being done by a small, dedicated group of ladies who are donating their time and talent into getting the word out about children's hospice.

I hope that answers your questions, Sue.  You sound like the kind of person who I've hoped to meet through this project --- a Depp fan who knows how important children's hospice efforts are.  On that subject, I want to add something else:

People sometimes ask if their donations are going to help children all over the country.  This is the best answer I can give:

CHPCC essentially has two 'branches' --- on a practical level, they are able to offer assistance to terminally ill children only in the state of California.  However, CHPCC's other branch is a more expansive national effort:  they have worked to pass a groundbreaking children's hospice law in CA, FL and a few other states.  And they continue to work on legislative and advocacy efforts all over the country.

This is very exciting, and one of our goals is to make more people aware of the need for legislative changes related to terminally ill children and their healthcare choices.  In fact, just this month CHPCC was adopted as a model pilot program by NHPCO.  This link will explain it best:  http://www.nhpco.org/i4a/pages/Index.cfm?pageID=5398

Anyway, Sue, I hope this long answer reassures you about our project.  I would enjoy hearing back from you with any additional questions, or ideas you may have to help us gain more attention for this worthy cause.

Very best,
Donna Giachetti
